What type of college do you want to attend?
Some of the most important decisions you must make when choosing to attend a postsecondary institution is the type of school, location of the school, degrees offered, and cost of attendance. This section will help you narrow down your choices by explaining the different types of schools available.
Do you know which type of college you want to attend?
Instructions:
Match the letter with the appropriate description.
A. Community College
B. Independent or Private College or University
C. Technical or Vocational School
D. Public state university or college
1. The requirements vary by the type of school, but since there is no one group that determines the requirements for these schools, your best bet is to contact the individual schools you are interested in and get a packet of information.
2. These schools focus on building specific kinds of skills. They require the SAT or ACT for college admissions. They might have wait lists and may only admit a certain number of people a year if the skill they teach is in demand.
3. These schools have specific academic requirements and have set tuition and boarding fees established by a governing board of regents for each state. The schools can all vary by degree programs, locations, undergraduate to doctorate programs, and size of campus.
4. This college or school should be no more than 50 miles away. They should have an open-door policy that guarantees admission to any student who has earned a standard high school or equivalent diploma. These schools are very popular and get tons of applications.
